If you’re interested in sending your child to a Christian preschool, it’s likely that you’re familiar with the Christian idea that we live in a sin-filled world. We have a statue of a lion and a lamb getting along nicely, but we know that that’s not the way the world is right now. While it would be great if natural and manmade disasters never happened, that’s just not going to change as long as we’re living on this Earth. There will be dangerous weather, there will be sickness, and there will be people who make bad decisions.
But we can never give up the fight to protect the children in our care. We do everything we can to defend against the bad things of this world. In fact, Jesus wants us to help each other when the world causes us to stumble. That means taking care of the children, too, and protecting them from the dangers that arise. Today we’re going to talk about how we’ve done everything to make our early childhood education center as safe as it can possibly be.
While it’s impossible to be prepared for absolutely every situation that might occur — meteor strikes come to mind! — we want you to be aware that we have done everything we can to ensure the safety and well being of your child each and every day they’re here in our Christian daycare and preschool. Let’s take a look at the many steps that we employ.
The First Door
In these terrible times of school shootings, it’s important that only the people who need to be in a building even get through the front door. Anyone who wants to access the front door needs to have a four-digit access code just to get into the lobby area. This makes an excellent first line of defense to keep out anyone out who shouldn’t be there. At the same time, it makes an easy and convenient way for us to let our parents and guardians in.
You might think to yourself “couldn’t someone tell someone else the passcode? Or maybe a good telephoto lens could see the numbers used to get into the building?” While the latter is unlikely, the former has some merit. That’s why we have…
The Second Door and the Pickup
We know that passcodes can be compromised, so that door is only the first thing to get in the way of any wrongdoers wanting to access the building. That’s why we have the second door in order to engage the “two-step authentication” to allow access to the rest of the building.
The second door also requires a code, but in addition it needs a fingerprint to work. It’s a state-of-the-art biometric system that ensures only those who are in the system are allowed to pick up the child. It’s all about keeping the right kids with the right people.
The Video Surveillance
It seems like video security is becoming more and more important to people. Home products such as Nest Cam keep an eye on things when you’re not there, ensuring that anyone who attempts to break in will be caught. If someone breaks in and they find that they’re on camera, they might just leave before they get in any more trouble.
Video surveillance at our Christian daycare plays many roles. First of all, it keeps an eye on the students for their safety. If they’re interacting with anyone they shouldn’t be, it can alert teachers and create a record of the encounter. Second, it monitors any adults that might be in the area. Simply knowing that they’re on camera can often prevent anything bad from happening.
The Safety Equipment
While we provide a caring and loving environment for children, it’s important to remember that our Christian preschool is a business. And that’s a good thing, because it means we have to stay up-to-date on the safety equipment we have here at our early childhood education center.
Our preschool and daycare building is equipped with smoke detectors and a fire alarm system. If the lights do go out, we have emergency lighting. And in the case of small fires, we have adult-accessible fire extinguishers.
Of course, we can’t just rely on technology to help during an emergency. We have the kids participate in monthly fire drills, which is even more than the average public school. This isn’t just important for the kids, but also important for the adults in the infant care rooms. On top of fire drills, we also perform tornado drills.
When kids are out on the playground, they have a fence that allows them to see the surrounding foliage while still being safe. While it would be great if we didn’t have to worry about letting them run free, the fence ensures that they’re not running off to where they shouldn’t be. It also stops anyone from getting in who shouldn’t.
We pray that we never have to use our CPR training, but there’s always the possibility that we might have to. We have someone who is trained in CPR on the school at all times so that the most can be done for a child who is in need of immediate medical intervention.
Most of the safety equipment we have protects kids from obvious dangers, but it’s important to note the air filtration system we have that protects them from pathogens.
Where are these airborne problems coming from? Sometimes it just the basic dust and pollen that are coming in through the doors and windows. Other times it’s the viruses and bacteria that the kids themselves bring in and send into the air, pathogens from coughs and sneezes that can get other kids sick. Of course, this HEPA filtration system can also keep serious allergens out of the air, which means that kids with particular allergies will be safer.
